Food And Cash Drive Spotlight

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans -- Aug. 23, 2007

What started as a food drive to collect a few donations from co-workers ended up being a solid food collection to help stock empty foodshelves during the end of the summer, when donations typically decline.

This Thrivent Financial for Lutheran's food drive started with one person wanting to give back and ended up collecting over 732 lbs. of food, plus a generous amount of financial support (that is still coming in) from individuals and Thrivent's matching funds program.

EFN has a 250 lb. cut-off to determine which food drives receive complimentary pick-up and barrel drop off. When Denise contacted EFN to set up a drive at Thrivent Financial she was unsure about how much her 23 person department would actually collect.

This is an example of how an energetic food drive coordinator can go a long way. Denise didn't even know what to expect, but she kept sending emails and remind her coworkers about the importance of giving back. No matter the size of your group, it's the size of the heart that counts.

Denise Dunnell visited the Emergency Foodshelf Network's (EFN) web site during the week of Minnesota's Food Stamp Challenge and was driven to help those less fortunate.

EFN thanks Denise and her coworkers for chosing to support the Emergency Foodshelf Network, by making a difference in their community.
