Survival mode is a term coined by social work professionals referring to a person who is struggling day to day, sometimes hour to hour, wondering where their next meal will be coming from. Many people who visit foodshelves are at, or are approaching, survival mode.
Foodshelves address this by providing immediate, basic needs for these clients. Behind the need for nutrition is the need for personal hygiene. The Emergency Foodshelf Network, not only provides food to hunger relief programs around the Twin Cities area, but also provides hygiene and household items to foodshelves and shelters. These items are not able to be purchased with food stamps but are necessary for an individual's health and wellness.
If you would like to make a contribution or hold a personal care drive, popularly requested items include:
- Diapers, especially medium and large sizes
- Baby wipes
- Feminine hygiene products
- Toilet paper
- Tissues
- Toothpaste/brushes
- Hairbrushes
- Dental floss
- Deodorant
- Razors
- Shaving cream
- Laundry and dish soap
