The four most common childhood illnesses are diarrhea, acute respiratory illness, malaria and measles. Each of these illnesses is both preventable and treatable. Yet, again, poverty interferes in parents’ ability to access immunizations and medicines. Chronic undernourishment on top of insufficient treatment greatly increases a child’s risk of death.

Our Executive Director

Tim Barnes has served as Executive Director of the Emergency Foodshelf Network (EFN) since 1994. He is responsible for helping create and acquire many of the programs that are a part of EFN’s current service matrix. These include: Fare for All, All Seasons Food Rescue, Hi-Rise Program, and Farmers Market Initiative.

He is also responsible for significantly expanding EFN’s services statewide and increasing membership from 27 foodshelves in Hennepin County to over 180 hunger relief programs statewide.

Prior to his tenure at EFN, Mr. Barnes served as Executive Director of Agape House for 3 years and Youth Services Manager at the Greater Minneapolis American Red Cross for 5 years. He earned a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Minnesota in 1995.
